POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Associate Director of Programs (AD - Programs) will be responsible for providing strategic leadership across the organization’s program portfolio, with a strong emphasis on business development to drive growth, sustainability, and innovation. This role includes oversight of program design, implementation, and quality control, ensuring that projects align with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives. The AD will work closely with senior leadership to expand iDE’s impact and footprint through targeted business development efforts, securing new funding opportunities, and cultivating partnerships that advance iDE's mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development
- Lead the development of the country program’s business development strategy, aligning it with organizational goals. Set priorities and targets for securing diversified funding.
- Build and maintain relationships with key donors, private sector partners, government stakeholders, and international agencies. Identify and pursue strategic partnerships to enhance iDE’s programmatic reach and financial base.
- Oversee the proposal development process, including identifying opportunities, leading and coordinating proposal teams, and ensuring high-quality submissions that meet donor requirements.
- Conduct and coordinate market analysis to identify emerging trends, gaps, and opportunities in target sectors. Use findings to position iDE as a thought leader and partner of choice.
- Work closely with the Business Development Unit and other internal stakeholders to create winning proposals that meet the needs of donors and align with iDE’s programmatic expertise.
Program Leadership and Quality Assurance
- Manage and guide a diverse portfolio of projects across various sectors, ensuring they meet performance standards and align with strategic goals.
- Establish and monitor program standards, performance metrics, and outcome tracking to guarantee the quality and impact of iDE's programming.
- Ensure programs are delivered within budget, providing oversight on financial management, resource allocation, and compliance.
- Lead and promote adaptive management practices, including regular program reviews and learning, to continuously improve program effectiveness.
Staff Development and Mentorship
- Lead and mentor a team of program managers and specialists, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Develop and implement a capacity-building plan to upskill team members in business development, project management, and program design.
- Set clear performance objectives, conduct regular evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to support staff growth and development.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in International Development, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: 8-10 years of relevant experience in program management and business development within the international development sector, including a proven track record in proposal development, donor relations, and strategic partnerships.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Market Systems Development (MSD), women’s enterprise development, and program design.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and represent iDE effectively.
- Business Acumen: Strong financial and business acumen, with experience managing budgets and financial reporting for complex programs.

- Approximately 30% time commitment for domestic and international travel may be required
