CONTEXT:

Public establishment belonging to IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, IMT Nord Europe has three main objectives: to train  students with ethical engineering practice, enabling them to solve 21st century issues; to carry out R&D activities leading to outstanding innovations; and to support territorial development through innovation and entrepreneurship. The CERI EE has a vacant position in the research axis Observations, Sources, and Processes in the Atmosphere (OSPA). OSPA focuses on the physicochemistry of atmospheric trace species through both laboratory and field experiments, with the aim of improving the understanding of the characteristics, sources, and fate of air pollutants. Some of the OSPA members participate in the European Research Infrastructure Consortium ACTRIS (https://www.actris.eu/) and as such, provide long-term aerosol observations at the ATOLL platform located on the campus of the University of Lille. CERI EE offers a multicultural working environment, with laboratories located in Douai, a medium-sized town close to Lille, a cosmopolitan city known for its vibrant cultural scene and lively atmosphere.

We invite applications for a new permanent full-time position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of atmospheric aerosols.


BRIEF ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Under the guidance and responsibility of the Director of the CERI EE, the successful candidate should conduct the following missions/activities:

  • Teaching (~25%)
    • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (from lab work to lectures) in the field of environmental sciences, general chemistry and/or process engineering
    • Mentor and advise students, participate in internship defenses and project presentations, and develop new educational practices and pedagogies
  • Research and technology transfer (~75%)
    • Develop and lead research projects in partnership with other laboratories
    • Master field and lab instrumentation and data analysis related to atmospheric aerosols
    • Introduce or develop complementary techniques for better characterization of aerosol properties
    • Supervise technical staff, PhD students and postdoctoral scholars
    • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences and meetings.
    • Prepare an “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” (which allows to directly supervise French PhD theses)
    • Ensure the promotion and development of the Centre Energy and Environment
    • Participate to scientific networks in their research area of expertise
    • Participate to the organization of scientific events

The base salary is defined at the national level and based on the civil servant status. It will be adjusted for research experience. This position has telework options (2 days maximum per week).
