We currently have an opportunity for an Assistant Capital Accountant to join our team based in Exeter. Joining us on a full-time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £28,000 - £32,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.
 
About the role
 
The Capital Finance Team are responsible for expenditure reporting, collation of forecasts, production of depreciation forecasts, statutory and regulatory reporting and maintaining the Company Fixed Asset Register.
 
We support the business in all matters relating to the Capital program and must champion value for money and efficiency out-performance. Through accurate and timely reporting, we monitor progress towards achieving the Company’s capital programme goals within the approved financial targets.
 
The role of the Capital Assistant Accountant within the team is to make appropriate entries to the Fixed Asset Registers and other accounting records; to perform reconciliations and undertake control activities; to provide accounting and administrative assistance to the capital accounting team and ensure excellent communication with all other finance teams.
 
 

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will be responsible for the Entry of additions, disposals and revaluations into the company’s four fixed asset registers
  • Fixed asset register monthly depreciation charge and close-down procedures, including preparing journal entries reflecting FAR transactions and posting them to general ledger
  • Running FAR reports in response to request from other members of the capital team, including reports covering depreciation for future accounting periods
  • Supporting the Capital Finance Manager in completion of the monthly capital expenditure reports
  • Monthly capital accruals – review/analysis of accruals provided for reasonableness.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of capital balance sheet accounts
  • Overall supporting the month end process in terms of keeping in line with deadlines and resolving issues to ensure we can report on time. This includes systems reconciliations of capital expenditure by project.
  • To fill the role of mentor for the team Apprentice, working closely with them daily to help develop their understanding of both accounting principles and the importance of the tasks they undertake

What we are looking for:

  • AAT fully qualified and or ACCA / ACA / CIMA part qualified.
  • Methodical, accurate and consistent approach to work.   Good attention to detail and ability to sense check / ‘self audit’ their own work.
  • Good levels of Excel
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.  Confidence to maintain credible working relationships with many different people through the business.
