A Day in the Life of ASC Surgical Scrub Tech…
The Surgical Scrub Tech for the Ambulatory Surgery Center will be primarily responsible for ensuring proper care and use of surgical instruments and assisting surgeons during procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates activities with the RN’s and other co-workers in planning and implementing care in the OR.
- Assists the circulating nurse with patient care activities like positioning, prep and transport.
- Responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field. Uses aseptic technique to arrange instruments and supplies and assist the surgeon throughout the surgery by providing sterility of instrumentation.
- Performs instrument and sponge counts.
- Demonstrates correct technique in instrument, suture, specimen, and medication handling labeling. Disposes of hazardous waste appropriately.
- Follows all standards of performance guidelines established by the surgery center. Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through professional associations, journals, workshops, in-services, etc. to pro-actively keep updated on sterile processing techniques. Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations and remains current on changes. Recognizes implications of applicable laws and/or regulations to the department and implements or recommends courses of action to ensure compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
· Surgical Technologist Certification. Mandatory reporter Training certification
· High School Diploma or equivalent required
· Graduate from an approved surgical technology program
· Minimum of 2 years operating room experience preferred.
