Location: This position requires residency near Las Vegas, Reno, or Carson City, and will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. 
Position End Date: 7/31/2025
Salary: $70,000 salary with benefits

Overview:

The Office of State Epidemiology (OSE) is seeking a Health Program Specialist I who will possess a background in epidemiology, knowledge of principles and practices of public health infectious diseases, especially those applicable to the identification and control of infectious diseases. The HPS I will possess experience in antimicrobial stewardship (AS), healthcare associated infections (HAI) investigations and work to strengthen the HAI and antimicrobial resistant (AR) Program.  The AS Coordinator will lead AS activities and continue to interface with CDC Division of Healthcare Quality and Promotion partners to identify and incorporate areas of focus and interest into Nevada’s AS efforts. The AS Coordinator will promote the Nevada HAI/AR Program and will perform descriptive analyses, writing reports, developing tools (e.g., questionnaires, worksheets, surveys), application of analytical methods, data management, and provision of guidance to facilities and local health departments on antimicrobial stewardship.


Qualifications:

•Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in health science, chemistry, behavioral science, or closely related field application to the program area
•Two years of experience in epidemiology research and analysis. Knowledge of antibiotic stewardship, healthcare-associated infections, and infection prevention principles including:
- Researching, collecting, and analyzing data and statistics, developing objectives, protocols, and procedure
- Providing AS education services to healthcare personnel 
- Evaluating program effectiveness and accomplishment of desired outcomes to meet agency, federal or other standards and guidelines
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience 

•Bilingual (English and Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply


Responsibilities:

•The Antimicrobial Stewardship Coordinator is responsible for leading antimicrobial stewardship activities across Nevada, at acute care, long-term acute care, long-term care, and outpatient facilities to evaluate, educate, and monitor their antimicrobial stewardship capacity

•Work independently and in coordination with other HAI/AR program members and Bureau of Healthcare Quality and Compliance (HCQC) members to assist in prevention outreach and assess facility policy and procedures to enhance antimicrobial stewardship

•Provide medical providers education to increase monitoring, surveillance, and reporting of antibiotic use and serve as a subject matter expert for health care providers, local health department staff and the general public for multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) and antimicrobial stewardship 


•Develop, implement, and evaluate required stewardship activities as outlined by the CDC’s Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Supplement for Strengthening HAI/AR Programs and the CDC’s Core Elements in antimicrobial stewardship.

•Perform programmatic project management activities related to the HAI/AR Program’s National Healthcare and Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance. 

•Foster relationships with acute care hospitals and long-term care infection preventionists and coordinating monthly NHSN User Calls.

•Participate in grant development, writing, administration, and monitoring to ensure compliance with grant requirements.

•Research, collect and analyze antibiotic use data for regular review; monitor collection, data quality, and analysis of NHSN data, identify health issues, trends, and perform descriptive analyses, writing reports, developing tools (e.g., questionnaires, worksheets, surveys), application of analytical methods, data management, and provision of guidance to facilities and local health departments on antimicrobial stewardship

•Other duties as needed by the department or assigned by the program manager.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of Nevada in their public health programming. 
 
This position is currently remote. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
