On call for College breaks, holidays, and when Student Receptionists are sick or need a substitute. Shifts needing coverage will be a combination of the following hours: Tuesdays – Fridays, 9:45am- 5:15pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 11:30am – 5:15pm. Possible additional hours for special events.
Duties:
• Attend a three-hour training session upon hire, as well as periodic staff development sessions and meetings.
• Have weekend availability and the ability to come in to work on short notice.
• Speak comfortably with groups and people from diverse backgrounds.
• Be friendly and provide excellent customer service.
• Welcome and inform visitors about exhibitions, and be able to give short introductory tour of current exhibitions (will train).
• Sell catalogs, posters, and cards at the museum gift shop.
• Operate cash register and credit card machine.
• Execute daily cash reports, cash out register, keep accounts of sales, and record number of daily visitors.
• Answer the telephone, take accurate messages and put in staff mailboxes.
• Perform occasional museum tasks and projects if requested by staff.
• Read the Receptionist Notebook regularly in order to gain more knowledge about the Museum and current exhibitions.
Training:
Museum staff will fully train receptionists and provide additional guidance as needed.
Requirements:
• Able to work unsupervised.
• Attend training sessions as needed.
• Give a basic introductory tour of the Museum (will train).
• Have good telephone skills.
• Able to interact with the public in a friendly way.
• Experience in Visitor Services/Customer Service a plus.
• Should have basic working knowledge of handheld electronic devices.
• Will have strong math skills.
