Primary Function of Position:
The da Vinci Area Sales Director plays a critical role in building and developing the field sales team within his/her Region. The major responsibilities are to manage and direct the sales of da Vinci® Surgical Systems and to grow the utilization of their installed base. This will include managing installations within the assigned region and the hiring, training, and development of a dynamic sales team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and lead capital sales team within assigned region.
- Develop and implement sales activities to achieve and exceed capital organizational goals.
- Oversee the management of the capital sales process and sales activities of da Vinci® Surgical Systems into new hospitals and upgrades into existing hospitals.
- Assist Area Sales Managers/Key Customer Managers / Clinical Sales Director & Manager in negotiating key accounts.
- Partner with Area Sales Managers/Key Customer Managers/ Clinical Sales Director & Manager in closing deals, sales presentations, and organizing territories.
- Teach how to build KOL reference and QTI sites for scalability across installs.
- Teach how to build centers of reference with multi-specialty programs with clinical, operational, and executive references.
- Provide sales team with new product information or new information on existing products.
- Work collaboratively with Government affairs, Media, MACA, GAVE, Clinical affairs, clinical on strategies.
- Demonstrate collaborative leadership and influence management.
- Develop general executive development activities (round tables, executive sessions, business alignment meetings, kick-off meetings, etc.).
- Foster creative solutions and idea sharing for common problems.
- Manage key surgeons/customer relationships.
- Responsible for achievement of sales forecasts and meeting operational budgets.
- Act as a Medical Device Consultant (Medizinprodukteberater) in Austria and Germany, after appropriate training, as per legal requirement and provide guidance, insight, and support in the proper handling of Intuitive medical devices.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of 8 years sales experience and capital sales experience.
- Proven track record in leading and developing salespeople in the medical device industry.
- Strong background in selling medical capital equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel up to 70%, dependent upon account distribution.
- Preference for experience in healthcare or capital sales.
- Success in introducing new technologies to the market is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Operating Room environment preferred.
