Summary of Position:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate sales leader to play a critical role in enabling the successful launch of apitegromab, the company’s phase 3 candidate for the treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The Area Business Director (East) will have the opportunity to help build and lead area field-based sales team as well as shape and execute the launch strategy for Scholar Rock’s first commercial medicine. The Area Business Director role (ABD) oversees & leads the area designated sales organization to achieve or exceed revenue targets, as well as achieving/exceeding other key performance initiatives to help strengthen the awareness, market position, adoption, utilization and overall success of Scholar Rock’s first commercial product. The ABD will work cross-functionally to align brand strategy with the field team and execute compliantly to maximize business opportunities. This is a high-impact role with a unique opportunity to lead in an entrepreneurial environment and affect the trajectory of the company’s first launch.
Position Responsibilities
- Attract, recruit, coach, train and retain exceptional (East) area-based field sales team
- Cultivate a culture that inspires excellence and brings out the best in individuals
- Deploy Strategic Leadership and Vision: Formulate and implement an area sales strategy aligning with collaborative initiatives across departments to drive growth and market penetration of apitegromab
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Champion and nurture strong partnerships with Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Finance departments to ensure cohesive strategy and execution, enhancing the impact of sales efforts
- Define, measure, and report area sales targets and performance to ensure that these objectives are achieved or exceeded in a compliant, ethical and effective manner that also aligns to Scholar Rock’s corporate values
- Hold accountability to deliver on product performance, ensuring the achievement of launch goals and long-term performance targets
- Ensure consistency in tactical execution and messaging across external stakeholders. Effectively and compliantly drive education, awareness, and adoption of apitegromab with key HCPs and HCOs
- Use data-driven approach to continuously diagnose business performance and analyze competitive trends and impact on tactical execution against goal achievement
- Collaborate with Learning and Development to foster ongoing team development with an emphasis on skill improvement and career development
- Performance Management: Implement a performance management system that accurately measures achievements, fosters continuous improvement and creates a culture of accountability
- Talent Development: Attract, develop, and retain top talent providing motivation, development and inspiration to foster an environment of professional growth and the development of a high-performing sales team
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum 10 years of pharma/biotech commercial experience, with significant commercial leadership experience
- Ability to develop strategic sales plans with a successful track record in attracting, motivating, and managing high-performing sales teams to achieve or exceed sales goals
- Proven skills in leadership, strategic selling and negotiating
- Polished presentation skills
- Previous product launch experience, preferably in rare and/or neuromuscular disease
- General understanding of U.S. payer and market access dynamics
- Thorough understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements
- Outstanding communication, relationship-building and influencing skills across all levels and disciplines
