LAC Federal is looking for an Archival Specialist to participate in a significant collection discoverability project at a well-known institution. The Archival Specialist will be responsible for creating finding aids that will help users discover and navigate the unprocessed materials within the collection.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working with both analog and digital materials, analyze collection materials sufficiently to complete full level archival description.
- Analyze materials for main subject areas, creators, time periods and other factors.
- Make recommendations for reorganization and final disposition.
- Rehouse and prepare collection storage materials (e.g., boxes, envelopes, sleeves).
- Develop finding aids for unprocessed collection materials.
- Collaborate with other project staff to integrate finding aids into systems.
- Ensure that finding aids meet standards for quality and usability.
Requirements
- Master's in Library and Information Science with a concentration in records and archives.
- At least 1-2 years of experience processing archival collections including preparation of DACS compliant finding aids. Experience in creating finding aids for archival materials.
- Familiarity with archival standards and best practices including DACS, EADS.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of and experience with medical archival materials.
