Job Summary:
The Architect at Disney + Hotstar, the leading OTT platform in India, will play a crucial role alongside the CTO’s office in driving innovation, designing the overall Hotstar architecture, and leading important programs for the org. The person will have oversight of the entire tech platform and help in guiding multiple tech teams, collaborating with them and with their leaders. The person will have the humility to learn, build depth, and understand the workings of all critical frontend/backend systems and even be hands-on with critical components during key events. The Architect will build and raise the bar on best practices. Being part of the CTO’s office also means that the person will constantly work on improving the Tech culture - be a culture guardian.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will play a lead role in running and managing the operational excellence at Hotstar. You'll be the efficiency champion for cost and operations. You'll find ways to improve the overall developer productivity and guide leaders on improving the overall health of the org
- You will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of overall Hotstar architecture and design of various systems and components
- You will functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions
- You will develop technical roadmaps, outlining future directions and planned technological advancements
- Fully and completely understand system interdependencies and limitations. Armored with this knowledge, you'll often serve as the guiding light and conflict-resolver/tie-breaker for various teams. You'll help teams reach the right decision for the org by bringing in a neutral stance
- You'll lead by example by taking ownership of building and launching key components and systems in production
- You will exert technical influence over large teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience. Mentor on advanced technical matters for career growth
- You will unblock and pave the path with rapid prototyping thereby removing blindspots.
Skills & Attributes for success:
- Minimum 10+ years of experience building either mobile applications or scalable systems with mastery in either of them (frontend or backend) or both
- You'll lead by example by taking ownership of building and launching key components and systems in production
- Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills
- Solid background with hands-on experience as a software development engineer
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and designing for performance
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in data stores (SQL, NoSQL) and ability to choose the right technology based on requirements
- Ability to provide technical guidance across frontend and backend technologies with great depth in one of the areas at least
- Entrepreneurial spirit, thrive in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment, achieving stretch goals while clearing up forward debt for long-term success
- Extensive experience in mentoring junior engineers to success
- Humble to learn from others and from past experiences
- Ability to foster a fun culture within and across teams and be a culture guardian
Preferred Education & Experience
- B.Tech /B.E/ Masters or equivalent degree from a reputed college
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience as a full stack/mobile/backend developer with hands-on experience in building:
1) large scalable and performant distributed systems OR
2) mobile applications that have seen significant scale
- Any experience in ML, data science, or search in B2C(e-commerce, OTT) is a plus
