Application Support Engineer

Our client is seeking an Application Support Engineer primarily responsible for handling all support-related requirements for various functional groups and platforms. This individual will report directly to the Head of Application Support and liaise closely with the Investment team, including Quantitative Research Analysts, Portfolio Managers, and other business users, to respond to any application and infrastructure-related issues.
 
The tech stack for this role includes front-end applications that are primarily browser-based, developed using Python/Django and ReactJS. Middle-tier and back-end use Python, C#, SQL, and Docker. The team also leverages SQL Server, MySQL, Kafka/Confluent, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Geneva, Orchestrade, and various third-party APIs and data sources. The systems are hosted in AWS and heavily use AWS Services like Step functions, lambda, EC2, ECS, and S3.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve Levels 1 & 2 application support issues.
  • Provide written Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for each issue; in some cases, directly address the root cause by implementing fixes in code or configuration.
  • Maintain and manage the client’s knowledge base and runbooks.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to mitigate issue recurrence.
  • Organize with end users, Business Analysts, Architects, and Developers to integrate additional applications into the application support portfolio.
  • Collaborate with functions within and outside of IT to synthesize requirements, suggest creative solutions, and translate them into software.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts, monitoring tools, and other support methodologies, enabling the team to respond to production issues and reduce time to resolution proactively.
  • Assist with standardization of the development process including technology selection, deployment steps, code reviews, and IT tools.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of experience supporting and/or developing applications in the finance industry.
  • 2+ years of experience in a support role, programming in Python or C#.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud technologies, preferably AWS Services (step functions, Lambda, EC2).
  • Solid understanding of SQL.
  • General knowledge of basic networking principles.
  • Knowledge of scripting in Python, Perl, and/or PowerShell.
  • Comfortable working in Windows and Linux environments.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or other related disciplines (strong experience with a less directly relevant degree will be considered).

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of common applications used in asset management is a plus.
  • Formal problem-solving and/or analytical training/experience a plus.
  • Experience programming in a Python web framework (Django) and tools/frameworks (Kafka, Redis, Elastic Search, Docker) a plus
