Under the supervision of the OR Clinical Manager and general direction of an anesthesiologist is responsible for coordinating and managing activities related to Anesthesia Department. Provide anesthesia support services throughout the medical center in conjunction with surgical and non-surgical procedures requiring anesthesia.

- Acts as an expert in the field of anesthesia technology and is a resource for all staff in the use, assembly and care of anesthesia equipment.
- Maintains an inventory of all anesthesia equipment which includes but is not limited to the manufacturer and serial number, manufacturer guidelines for use and cleaning, preventive maintenance schedules and a record of any maintenance performed.
- Coordinates and supervises stocking of Difficult Intubation, Pediatric, Invasive Monitoring, Block and Epidural Carts.
- Oversees and supervises stocking, cleanliness and readiness which includes completion of daily safety checks of the Anesthesia Omnicell Workstations, Anesthesia Machines and all anesthesia specialty carts such as difficult airway, pediatric etc., in all departments where anesthesia services are provided.

- Reviews anesthesia supplies for supply chain compliance, establishes par levels, maintains inventory log and oversees the ordering process In conjunction with the Perioperative Business Manager.
- Ensures completion of daily anesthesia apparatus checks and maintains documentation.
- Interpret manufacturer’s procedure and guidelines for use and safety, as it relates to the use of equipment.
- Maintains and assembles Level One Rapid Infusers during emergencies.
- Maintains a record of all equipment used exclusively by the Anesthesia Department including serial numbers.
- Maintains a timely written log regarding maintenance/repair of anesthesia equipment.
- Maintains accurate records associated with the care and use of anesthesia equipment and supplies.
- Participates in annual performance appraisals.
- Participates in the global availability of Anesthesia equipment including ordering, purchasing and inventory.
- Participates in and assists in coordinating the interview and selection process for Anesthesia Technicians.
- Assists with all general, regional and MAC anesthesia procedures, sets up invasive monitoring equipment, difficult intubations and emergency procedures.
- Assists during emergency procedures as needed and directed by the anesthesiologist.
- Sets up Swan Ganz including flushing the line and attaching cardiac output monitoring devices.
- Sets up and assist with difficult intubations and insertion of double lumen endotracheal tubes.
- Sets up and assist with insertion of Spinal and Epidural catheters Sets up cell saver.
- Sets up hot line, arterial line, IV CVP including flushing of the line when necessary.
- Adheres to infection prevention guidelines and Standard Precautions. Uses good hand washing technique adheres to isolation policy helps keep Operating Room clean disposes of infectious waste properly appropriately clean any reusable items adhering to all manufacturers guidelines.
- Initiates appropriate emergency measures for cardiac/respiratory arrest.
- Reviews schedule of the day and coordinates/prioritizes patient care needs. Works with the anesthesia tech team to ensure assignments are appropriate to support plans of care in efficiency and quality measures.
- Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion when discussing patient information.
- Answers the telephone promptly and courteously and relays calls/messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
- Supports stewardship of resources and manages the anesthesia supply and equipment inventory appropriately to ensure availability to support safe patient care and efficiency.
- Coordinates orientation and training of new personnel in conjunction with the Assistant Director and/or the Perioperative Educator.
- Coordinates any necessary in-services with the OR Clinical Educator and/or anesthesia department and identifies educational needs.
- Assists other team members by offering assistance to distribute the workload.
- Participates in clinic activities: Attends unit and Medical Center staff meetings/inservices, is responsible for reading and comprehending all posted minutes and memos.

Additional InformationBasic knowledge of cardiac and respiratory anatomy and physiology as it relates to anesthetized patients. Possess knowledge of operating room procedures, sterile technique, standard precautions and anesthesia care. Possess analytical and visual ability in order to set-up, calibrate, operate, clean and maintain complex anesthesiology equipment. Demonstration of good reading comprehension, accurate spelling, and legible handwriting. Demonstration of effective and diplomatic oral communication.
