The Team
Our Discover team is responsible for developing and delivering the foundation for best-in-class user experiences in the SEEK Android app.
We are an agile distributed team comprised of team members located in Australia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. The team values, and is driven by, continuous improvement through analysis of user needs and behaviour, and by learning, adapting, and evolving our team capabilities and approaches to drive rapid delivery of value to candidates and hirers.
Being part of a multi-functional team, you’re likely to be interacting daily with many different partners across engineering, product, analytics, design, product, and delivery.
About the role
We are looking for someone with a focus on delighting our customers, a passion for designing & developing Android apps, and producing a high-quality platform that exemplifies our ‘Mobile First’ mantra!
You will be an integral part of our engineering team, with responsibilities including technical alignment, engineering quality, enabling capability of the team, and helping drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure we are delivering phenomenal outcomes for our customers and other teams at SEEK.
You will play a key role in helping our team drive our unified Asia Pacific vision to deliver a deep and enriched experience across our SEEK, JobsDB, and JobStreet brands that operate in the Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam markets.
Key Accountabilities
The following are key responsibilities that the position will be accountable for on a day-to-day basis.
Build
- Design, implementation & delivery of the technical foundations of the SEEK Android app.
- Work with other engineers to build, test, deploy and maintain software from development through to production
- Contribute to platform health, ensuring that our systems are, reliable, resilient, and efficient
- Contribute to the development of software, employing current software engineering best practices that are fit for purpose
- Work effectively within the team and contribute to existing DevOps environments
- Build software in alignment with existing frameworks and SEEK’s technology strategy
- Troubleshoots and respond to production incidents through to resolution
- Develop Cloud first and mobile first software
Execute
- Consistently write clean, well-tested, readable software, using current patterns and tooling
- Collaborate within your team to deliver excellent software
- Contribute to Agile delivery rituals and practices
- Build software, applying secure coding practises in all development
- Connect with others in a timely manner, effectively and with empathy
- Contribute to a DevOps culture through effective collaboration and regular reflection
- Understand your customers and consider their needs in all development
Support
- Take responsibilities for your personal well-being, safety, work-life balance and support the well-being of other team members
- Contribute to the onboarding of new hires as required
- Comfortable with articulating different opinions with a peer/team
- Participate in our paid after-hours support roster (when needed).

Essential Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of the Android ecosystem and API.
- Knowledge of Android best practices as well as general software engineering principles and patterns.
Build
- Consistently write effective, testable, readable, and secure code in more than one language
- Sound experience using modern software development practices
- Experience with Design Patterns and Data Modelling
- Experience applying continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
Execute
- Commercial experience with agile methodologies (e.g.: Kanban, Lean, Scrum)
- Commercial experience working in multi-functional technology teams
- Ability to effectively communicate and contribute at team level
- Demonstrates Software development practices such as: Test Driven Development, Behavioural Driven Development and Clean coding
Support
- Demonstrates empathy and compassion in supporting other team members
- Experience imparting knowledge and skills to other team members as required
Strengthen
- Participates in wider SEEK Engineering communities of practice activities (e.g., Hackathon)
- Participates in user groups, meetups and conferences and/or contributes to open-source projects
- Proactively manages professional growth and identifies learning opportunities
- Experience giving and receiving effective feedback and contributing to others learning
Desirable Skills and Experience
Practical experience with Kotlin, Coroutines, RxJava, Koin/DI, MVVM pattern, Clean Architecture, Build Variants, Espresso, multi-module applications.
- Familiar with GraphQL and Typescript.
- Using development and operational tools in the public cloud (preferably AWS).
- Implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiar with library development and maintenance.
