The successful candidate will play a leading role in delivering and developing Control Risks’ cutting-edge analysis of political, security, operational and macro-economic risks across South Asia. They will also help drive Control Risks’ thematic and comparative analysis on the region.
The role will involve providing expert advice to leading companies and organization's with operations or investments in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan. It will require close collaboration with Control Risks’ team of analysts, consultants and business developers, both in South Asia as well as globally. The role supports the direct delivery of bespoke consulting engagements and business advisory services to clients in the region and also entails the daily delivery of Control Risks’ analytical coverage of South Asia for subscription services and providing support on complex consulting projects.
The successful candidate will have a strong, specialist academic and/or professional background on any of the following South Asian countries: India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, and an outstanding aptitude for thinking and writing analytically to a very high standard in a timely manner. They will have the ability to convey careful analytical judgment and complex information in a confident, persuasive and accessible manner to clients.
Role tasks and responsibilities
Delivering high quality risk analysis:
- Being able, or quickly becoming able, to demonstrate understanding of major political, operational and security risk issues over specific South Asian markets (India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Maldives).
- Write high-quality analytical pieces of variable length and on a wide range of markets and issues, for a business audience, and on a daily basis.
- Write web content related to South Asia.
- Respond to client requests for analytical support around political, operational or security risk issues.
- Support senior risk analysts in delivery of complex, client-facing risk consultancy projects in South Asia.
Business development:
- Deliver or oversee consultancy proposals and responses to client requests in a timely manner and to a high standard to maximise chance of success through assistance to proposal-writers.
Development of services:
- Develop and improve research capabilities and resources.
- Develop and improve our network of sources and contacts.
- Communicate changes and developments to colleagues and clients, including suggest marketing initiatives and strategies.
Requirements
Essential
- At least three-five years of relevant work experience in research, consulting, journalism and/or emerging market analysis.
- Political, regulatory, sector, operational and security risk knowledge of markets in South Asia.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to apply research and knowledge to a practical business/investment context and to communicate business-relevant messages in succinct, high-quality written English.
- On-the-ground experience in South Asia.
- Masters degree in international relations, international finance/economics, journalism, area studies or other relevant subjects. Those who do not have a degree in these fields but have relevant work experience are also welcome to apply.
- In addition to English, preferably demonstrate fluency in at least one or more regional language(s): Nepali, Sinhalese, Dhivehi, Tamil, Kannada, Assamese or others) as the candidate would need to regularly and competently conduct research (open source or otherwise) in the languages.
- Ability to write succinctly and write well in business-level English.
- Knowledge of data analysis and visualisation tools is preferable, knowledge of MS-Office is a must.
