What you’ll do:
As a Sales Manager, you will be responsible for driving profitable premium growth by leading and developing a portfolio of insurance agencies. Your primary focus will be on new business acquisition and existing client retention. You will achieve this by developing and executing effective sales strategies, coaching, and mentoring underwriting teams, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders. You will collaborate with internal departments like Underwriting, Marketing, and Safety Services to ensure alignment and maximize agency success. This role requires strong sales leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire agency teams to exceed sales targets. A majority of your time will be spent in the field conducting face-to-face visits with distribution partners.
What you can expect:

- Own, manage and execute the sales strategy for an assigned territory of agencies. Create, maintain and execute high quality, detailed territory/agency strategy plans to optimize agency performance including new business acquisition, retention of existing customers and profitability goals. Plans include strategic and tactical components in support of key business strategies. Aligns plans to Pinnacol strategies and support (tools, initiatives, resources) to continually increase market share and revenue.
- Leverage NCCI data and other industry intelligence to identify and qualify prospective customers, enhancing the pipeline of potential new business with agents/brokers through selling Pinnacol’s value.
- Develop a thorough understanding of assigned territory, including agency types, agency operating models, agency personnel and competitors to maximize the market opportunity and meet sales territory financial objectives.
- Seek out and establish relationships with locations outside of Colorado affiliated with the assigned brokers and agencies to identify and drive new business growth.
- Review and analyze agency performance (growth, target customers, retention, loss ratio, group requirements) monthly; compare to annual goals to create value for the agency and Company.
- Independently develop and foster quality relationships with agencies at all levels through regular visits, entertainment, and effective communication tools. Document relationships with agencies using Company systems or call reports to demonstrate the quality, content, and outcomes of agent visits.
- Serve as primary contact for geographical/assigned agents and help facilitate working relationships between distribution resources and underwriters. Directs agency/customer issues/problems to appropriate resources ensuring resolution.
- Remain current on market conditions, competitive landscape, and innovative opportunities, and provide timely feedback to the Company.
- Understand and influence deal outcomes through the use of insight selling and consultative selling techniques to teach customers and offer unique perspectives on their business while tailoring the message and taking control of the sales process.
- Motivates and supports internal stakeholders by partnering (underwriters, claims, safety services) to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, retain customers, and support agents.

What you need to be successful:
Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred. Relevant work experience (similar kind of work at a similar level of work as described in the essential duties) may be substituted for the bachelor's degree. Completion of a degree is encouraged and supported. 3-5 yrs years of professional and sales experience required, insurance industry a plus. Knowledge of the independent agent distribution system is a plus.
Local travel is 60%. Extensive telephone and computer work in the home environment; travel via personal automobile within the state is required; must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance. May lift up to 25 pounds.

When we find the right person, we try to put our best foot forward with an offer that excites you. The compensation for this role is targeted at $109,600 -$130,000 with a strong bonus potential of 20+% of the salary. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including your experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
