Role

This opportunity is based in Galvanize’s San Francisco (Financial District) office, reporting to the Controller. As an Accounting Manager, you will play a key role in managing and overseeing the financial activities of the firm. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and providing valuable insights to support decision-making. Your day to day responsibilities will include working hand in hand with the existing finance team, collaborating with cross-functional team members, and actively contributing to process improvements resulting in efficiencies.  

Essential Job Responsibilities

This role offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional to contribute to the financial success of Galvanize and make a significant impact through leadership, expertise, and strategic financial management in the following areas:

Investment Funds (VC/Growth & Real Estate)

  • Review quarterly NAV packages, financial statements, and partner capital statements from fund administrator, for funds and GP entities
  • Oversee monthly reporting process at property level performed by fund administrator and property managers and assist with cash movements at the investment account level, determining capital injection needs as well as distributions to the funds with the investment team
  • Assist with processing of fund capital calls and distributions
  • Initiate cash movements for investment fundings and expense payments
  • Liaise with internal deal teams regarding investment pipeline, valuation, and portfolio management
  • Maintain fund track records and general performance calculations
  • Manage credit facilities by initiating borrowing requests and repayments, and preparing quarterly compliance documentation
  • Support year-end audits of funds

Compliance and Tax (Operating Companies & Investment Funds)

  • Assist with preparation of quarterly tax estimates
  • Review annual tax workpapers and returns prepared by tax service providers
  • Process tax payments as needed
  • Review firm SEC and other regulatory filings
  • Oversee and/or support preparation of 1099s, San Francisco form 571-L, and other tax compliance items, as needed

Operating Companies (TopCo and Manager entities)

  • Support monthly and quarterly close of TopCo (management company) and manager entity books with outsourced accounting firm
  • Assist with quarter-end reporting to board members and senior management, and to external financial stakeholders
  • Evaluate firm cash needs and initiate cash movements across accounts as needed
  • Oversee coding and approval of company payables for bi-weekly bill payment runs
  • Process quarterly net profit distributions for manager entities
  • Manage intercompany billing and reimbursement of expenses
  • Assist with preparation and review of company budgets
  • Support year-end audit of global consolidated financial statements

Additional Responsibilities (based on experience, interest and business need):

  • Assist with creating and implementing internal processes and controls related to financial reporting and operations
  • Support Impact team with annual carbon-emissions measurement for the firm
  • Support investor relations and legal teams with informational requests, as needed
  • Coordinate with UK team to consolidate UK operating company books and records into US parent

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance or a related field required
  • CPA license preferred
  • Experience working in-house, or servicing via public accounting or an administrator, an investment fund and/or management company for 4+ years
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct preferred 
  • Up to date with COVID vaccines
  • Able to work in-office four days per week. There will be some flexibility around working from home, but candidates should assume this is not a remote position

Compensation and Benefits

  • The starting base salary for this position will range from $135K - $150K. Actual compensation may vary from posted base salary depending on your confirmed job-related skills and experience.  
  • Total cash compensation will also include an annual discretionary bonus
