Accounting Clerk

Reporting to the Accountant, the Accounting Clerk will be responsible is responsible for complex posting and timely payment of invoices. This position is also responsible for investigating and resolving related queries from both internal and external parties, preparation of purchase orders, of as well as providing administrative support associated with day-to-day operations.
This position is based out of the Galore Creek Mining Corporation Head Office in Vancouver.

Accounting Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont);
  • Support PO process in the PRISM procurement module by raising PO’s from approved requisitions, performing 3-way matches, and entering invoices against PO’s;
  • Accurately set up vendor master data by verifying vendors with strong focus on fraud preventions;
  • Accurately enter and process vendor invoices and employee expense reports in a timely manner by ensuring proper authorization and proper coding;
  • Respond to accounts payable queries from different departments and suppliers through email, phone, or in person after thorough investigation and analysis;
  • Work with vendors to resolve payment discrepancies and outstanding balances, and assist the Project Team with work completion estimates for cost tracking;
  • Prepare and enter month end journal entries;
  • Identify deficiencies and inefficiencies in workflows, and collaborate on solutions;
  • Assist in maintaining SOX compliance with regards to A/P document flows, records management, and segregation of duties;
  • Assist with other adhoc activities as assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Create and track supply orders from vendors;
  • Assist with travel coordination for staff and contractors from the Vancouver office;
  • Represent Galore Creek through answering phone calls, emails, and general inquiries;
  • Perform office related duties such as document management, copying, scanning, etc. to ensure the efficient operation of the office;
  • Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace; and
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the project team and contribute to creating a positive workplace environment.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate should have fundamental accounting background or knowledge, preferably working towards an accounting designation such as CPA or equivalent or have relevant experience;
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable (A/P) procedures and best practices to ensure accuracy and timely processing;
  • A/P System module experience is required (Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is preferred);
  • Strong spreadsheet skills using Microsoft Excel for analysis;
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and a strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task, solve problems and suggest solutions, and meet tight deadlines;
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated prioritization and time management skills;
  • Previous experience working as an Administrative Assistant is an asset;
  • Advanced written and oral English; 
  • Critical and conceptual thinking with problem solving skills;
  • Vision and strategy with innovative thinking; and
  • Ability to lead, develop, and work within a team
