Accounting Clerk

Pay Rate: $25.00/hr

Your Impact
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the organization in performing accounting functions including adhering to all internal controls and organizational policies; maintaining accounting systems and data; and ensuring funds are spent and managed according to the goals, mission and budget of the organization. (GAAP).

Primary Responsibilities

General Accounting (40%)

  • Assist in the timely general ledger entry and reconciliation of all transactions. Assist the Associate Accountant in reconciliation of monthly bank statements, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with the reconciliations of affiliate community support revenue.
  • Provides Controller with monthly budget vs. actual reports.
  • Be first line of control and oversight for accounting. Identify risk and work with the Chief Financial Officer/Controller to select (where appropriate) efficient and effective alternative business processes to achieve objectives.
  • Submit all reports to Chief Financial Officer/Controller in a timely manner.
  • Assists the Controller with construction job cost allocations.

Administration (30%)

  • Respond to calls and correspondence within 24 hours.
  • Maintain an effective filing and records management system.
  • Provide A/P and A/R information as requested from other departments and consultants.

Administration, Accounts Receivable and Special Projects (25%) 

  • Manage the complete cycle of the accounts payable process and ensure timeliness and accuracy of vendor payments.
  • Maintain vendor files and respond to vendor request within 24 hours.
  • Process cash receipts, record revenue and receivables.
  • Work closely with the Fund Development Team to ensure that revenues and receivables in Sage Intacct are reconciled.
  • Prepare year-end outstanding pledges workpaper and collect corresponding documentation for our files.
  • Audit and Tax compliance; Assist with annual audit schedules related to revenue and receivables, provide Auditors with reports and testing documentation, assist with annual tax filings and business registrations.
  • Help implement cloud-based workflow tools for Accounts Payable and Expense Reporting.
  • Work with Controller to develop, implement, and maintain updated accounting procedures.
  • Constantly improve workflow and systems. Analyze current procedures, conduct research, and recommend changes for more efficient and effective business processes.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional. publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%) 

  • Other Duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of work experience in accounting and/or finance or related field
  • Excellent organizational and written communication skills. Close attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work in a high-energy organization; a team player willing to take on new challenges and who demonstrates ability to partner across all organizational levels and departments.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, able to manage and deliver on multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
  • Word, Excel, and Outlook proficiency required.
  • Commitment to serving families with low-incomes and advancing the critical call for affordable ownership housing in Marin, San Francisco and the San Mateo counties.
  • Must be able to pass background check. (In accordance with state and county law: convictions do not necessarily rule out employment, it depends on the nature and severity of the conviction and is evaluated on a case by case basis, check is conducted on last 7 years only.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE and/or Sage Intacct and Salesforce
  • Not-for-profit and/or Construction experience

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This position be hybrid role and will be required to work to in-person/in-office as needed and permitted by the CDC and San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Physical Demands
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and stand or bend as necessary. Must be able to travel within HGSF’s service area.

Compensation for this role is competitive, DOE.
