The role:

Aiven is looking for an energetic and passionate Accounting Associate to strengthen the Financial Reporting team, which consists of 10+ fantastic colleagues in Europe. The team is ambitious in developing processes and team competence to be best in class. 

We are seeking a motivated, proactive and hands-on accounting professional who carries good team work and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be a qualified individual with a strong interest in accounting principles, financial control and process. We value a reliable team player, who enjoys working in a global, dynamic environment, wanting to seek improvements to processes, build strong relationships in and outside of finance and develop their career in a technology business.

This position is based out of Helsinki, at Aiven HQ.

What you'll do:

• Contribute to the month-end close, including completing accounting activities, preparing and posting journal entries.
• Assisting with the accounting and financial reporting for a Group of 15 entities around the globe at the statutory entity level - the largest entities being in Finland and Germany.
• Working on the individual audits and preparation of disclosure elements of the financial statements for the subsidiary entities. 
• Assisting the accounting team with ad hoc tasks and projects.
• Assisting with VAT returns and preparation of tax information.
• Work on projects to improve and automate accounting processes and systems within the finance landscape to enhance efficiency and operational excellence.
• Work on ad hoc treasury tasks, such as managing bank accounts, reviewing payments, cash reconciliation activities. 
• Work with and oversee some of our external advisors, including accounting and payroll partners in different jurisdictions, tax authorities, auditors and consultants.
• Assisting with finance controls. 

What we're looking for:

• Partial accounting qualification and / or prior experience working in a finance team. 
• Some knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and standards (IFRS and local accounting rules and tax rules).
• Experience working with international corporate groups will be an advantage. 
• 2+ years experience in accounting activities.
• Working knowledge of finance processes.
• Experience in tech or scale ups will be beneficial. 
• Experience with an ERP system or other finance systems. 
• Good communication skills and strong team-working ability 
• Ability to build effective working networks, and positively influence the finance team and other teams cross-functionally. 
• Professional fluency in English (written and verbal)
