DIS-TRAN Steel, Located in Pineville, LA, is looking to hire an Accountant to join our team. The Accountant functions as a highly quantitative, driven, and creative business support person to the manufacturing plant and financial management team, which is challenged with the essential task of managing the finances of a constantly evolving manufacturing environment.  The Accountant works cross-functionally with all departments of the plant with the primary objective of accurately recording, analyzing, and reporting plant manufacturing performance data.  The Accountant works with and evaluates plant-level costs and controls, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, production labor timekeeping, cost accounting, inventory audits, ERP controls, cost analysis, etc.  The Accountant also supports month-end close and special projects as requested. The Accountant works closely with the manufacturing plant to understand issues and how they impact the financial results as well as educate/inform department(s) on cost drivers and variances. The Accountant may also act as a liaison with corporate financial staff, as required. EXPECTATIONS:

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Records and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Assists with month end closing and general ledger work.
  • Compiles data to prepare recurring month end journal entries for manufacturing activities.
  • Investigates variances that arise from financial activity; determines causes and resolves discrepancies to ensure accuracy of financial reporting and analysis.
  • Preserves knowledge of inventory management process/controls.
  • Investigates inventory variances and resolve issues.
  • Translates ERP detailed information and utilizes advanced spreadsheet reporting tools to enhance and simplify analysis.
  • Supports Plant Accounting Manager’s efforts for implementing and maintaining internal controls for inventory, works in process, cost of sales, overhead, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.
  • Ensures that sufficient internal controls and procedures are in place and being followed to protect the plant’s assets.
  • Maintain customer tax exemptions/direct pay certificates.
  • Customer billing & sales tax accruals.
  • AP invoice processing & use tax accruals.
  • Assist in keeping RNI, accounts payable, and other liabilities current.
  • Assist in keeping multiple receivable types current.
  • Assist with time keeping & labor hour records.
  • Internal inventory/consumable audits.
  • Adheres to additional responsibilities per management that could include but are not limited to:
  • Accounts payable processing.
  • Accounts receivable processing.
  • Production labor time keeping.
  • Subcontract shipments/receipts records and cost allocation. 
  • REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCOUNTANT:
  • At least one year in a cost accounting position in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • B.S. in Accounting required.
  • ERP system savvy and has an excellent track record of creatively working with databases preferred; implementation experience a plus; Epicor experience a plus.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills in cost accounting and reporting required.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, etc.) required; high level of proficiency using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets required.
  • Thorough understanding of internal control and accounting practices, including inventory, costing, general ledger, fixed assets etc. required.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem solving skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) required.
