We have an exciting opportunity for an Access Governance Coordinator to join the team. The role will form a key post in supporting the Access Governance Manager and Senior Access Governance Coordinator in managing efficient access to research datasets and, eventually, access to samples and recontact studies.   

Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:  

  • Supporting the Access Governance Manager and Senior Access Governance Coordinator in managing an effective access process to facilitate efficient access to research datasets.   
  • Providing excellent secretariat support to the Access Board, working with leadership teams and other advisory boards as needed.   
  • Processing and reviewing research studies and being responsible for the oversight and management of the access process.    
  • Facilitating quick and efficient turn-around times for responses on research studies submitted by researchers.   
  • Facilitation of access to research datasets via the administration of our TRE accreditation process. 
  • Serving as one of the primary points of contact for access queries internally and externally.  
  • Supporting the Access Governance Manager and the Access Team in developing and delivering training to manage access queries from researchers.  
  • Training and mentoring of new or less experienced secretarial and administrative staff, including temporary staff, as required and to monitor progress on a continuing basis.  
  • Undertaking other duties deemed appropriate to the level of the post and to be flexible to the requirements of the environment and research programme.   

Requirements

You will have previous experience within administration, coordination within a similar environment, you will also have some of the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to make independent and pragmatic judgements and triage or respond to them accordingly in a timely manner. 
  • Experience of a range of administrative practices including minute taking, using databases and reports to maintain oversight of workload.  
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and apply written procedures and summarise complex information to effectively disseminate written communications and comprehend complex discussions internally and externally.  
  • Able to effectively work with a variety of different stakeholders for scheduling and similar; experience triaging issues and queries to ensure quick resolution.  
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage time well, prioritise effectively and handle multiple deadlines.   
  • Commitment to team working and respectful and considerate for the skills of others.  
  • Ability to adapt to change and take initiative where appropriate.  
  • A passion for making a global impact on healthcare and research.  
  • A background in science or experience of governance processes in health research; for example, in an academic, NHS, industry, research grant funder or charity setting; is ideal but not essential.
