Ripple Effect is looking for a part-time, 508 Compliance Document Specialist with 2 years of professional, relevant experience to support our clients' missions. This role will work closely with the Communications & Outreach Division to support a variety of projects across the organization. This Position will have a heavy focus on Section 508 formatting, testing, and remediation, but may also include science, communications, and business technical writing and editing duties. Topic areas may include scientific research, federal grant funding, human subjects research, healthcare payments, or other areas related to science, research, or healthcare fields.

Responsibilities
- Provide Section 508 Compliance document accessibility reviews and document remediation in accordance with 508 standards and requirements
- Ensure compliance with Section 508 for all materials in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and Adobe Acrobat
- Format documents in MS Word styles
- Create 508 compliant templates to ease document creation process
- Utilize best practices for writing /editing, such as maintaining continuity of style, voices, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree
- 2 years of relevant experience
Basic Requirements
- Must maintain desktop version of Microsoft Office Suite on personal device to be used for compliance work
- Ability to use accessibility checking tools, such as PAC 2024 PDF checker, JAWS, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure compliance with 508 checklists
- Possess skills to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document accessibility issues
- Keep current with all relevant policies and requirements for accessibility as related to documents, audio, and video files
- Design and develop document and file templates that adhere to accessibility guidelines
- Track and log document and template changes and provide reports as requested
- Advise staff on policy and best practices for creating accessible materials and provide end-user and group training for document accessibility
- Demonstrated knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 Accessibility Standards as they relate to documents
- Ability to work with virtual teams and collaboratively in SharePoint to accomplish tasks
- Highly organized, efficient, and extremely detail-oriented
- Proficient oral and written communication skills, including professional emails
- Ability to work independently and know when to seek assistance
- Must be able to reside in a state where Ripple Effect is configured to employ PT staff (currently all states except CA, NY, and PR)

Skills That Set You Apart
- HHS experience, especially NIH and CMS
- Experience with government consulting or proposals
- Section 508 Trusted Tester Certification
- Web and multimedia accessibility experience
- Experience with Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs)/Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs)
- Ability to perform substantive editing of complex technical documents
- Strong working knowledge of references, such as the GPO, AMA, and Chicago-style manuals
- Has own license to Adobe Acrobat Pro actively installed on device
