POSITION: USGA P.J. Boatwright internship (3 months, Communications Intern)

Description
This position is an approximately 3-month long internship that provides exposure to all aspects of golf and sports communications including photography, videography, writing, social media and graphic design. The primary focus of this position will be to assist the TGA communications staff in tournament communications and multimedia projects. This position will also include elements of tournament operations. This position is based at Golf House Tennessee in Franklin, approximately 25 miles south of Nashville, Tennessee.
Responsibilities
- Assist TGA communications staff in content creation at championships across Tennessee, both on-site and from the office.
- Serve as staff photographer and videographer at championships and events. This includes capturing, editing and sharing footage to social media channels, TGA websites, etc.
- Provide tournament coverage by writing stories/recaps/press releases and social media posts about championships.
- Content and graphic creation and posting on all TGA social media channels including Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, and Facebook.
- Assist with research, writing, fact-checking, and proofing short-form and long-form content for tournament coverage.
- Assist with tournament operations.
- Introduction to other departments including Tournament Operations, Handicapping, Marketing, and Course Rating.
- This is a mostly traveling internship with limited time spent at the TGA office.
- The work week consists of 40-60 hours, depending on tournament assignments.
- Reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Internship Coordinator.
Job Requirements
- Ability to live in Franklin, Tennessee, or the Greater Nashville Area.
- Strong work ethic, communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong news-writing and editing skills; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; photography experience is a plus; videography experience is a plus; experience with photo and video editing software is a plus; social media experience is a plus.
- Golf background or strong interest in golf and basic knowledge of the Rules of Golf is a plus.
- Willingness to travel across the state of Tennessee for extended periods of time in extreme weather and temperatures, work early mornings and weekends.
- Have your own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift and manage equipment up to 50 pounds.

About the Tennessee Golf Association (TGA)
- The Tennessee Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1914 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Tennessee. TGA membership consists of over 180 member clubs represented by over 40,000 individuals. The TGA conducts over 125 days of competition each year consisting of men’s and women’s championships, junior amateur championships, TGA and USGA qualifiers, One Day series events, and Pro-Am series events.
About the P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship Program
- In 1991, the USGA established the P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship Program. This program is designed to give experience to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration, which assists state and regional golf associations in the promotion of amateur golf, on a short-term, entry-level basis.
