Job purpose
As a 1st Line IT Technician, you will support all aspects IT Technology for end users and computers and contribute to the wider operational activities of the IT Department.
This position will be based at Alderley Park but will require working at our Tytherington site at least once a week.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Technical
- Provide general end user and computer support across scientific and business areas.
- Conduct rigorous troubleshooting and diagnosis for system issues, implementing effective solutions to maintain operational continuity.
- Oversee and manage users, computers, and groups in Active Directory (AD) and Microsoft 365 to ensure secure and efficient access control.
- Support the efficient and robust computer build processes for new hardware.
- Support the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and associated peripherals.
- Support the installation and maintenance of end user applications.
- Support user on boarding and off boarding processes and new starter induction.
- Contribute to the overall business development and strategic development, providing technical insight and support.
- Perform general IT tasks in support of the team and wider business, including those not explicitly specified in the role, demonstrating flexibility and an initiative-taking approach.
Operational
- Liaise with other members of the IT team, and the broader business, to seek approval where appropriate, and to respond to their requests in a timely manner.
- Identify opportunities to improve robustness, efficiency and reduce costs and liaise with colleagues to implement these.
- Contribute to end user training via various formats including written guides, video resources and in person training.
- Support inter-departmental relationships to ensure IT is both meeting their requirements and implementing change effectively.
Leadership:
- Contribute to and support the overall change management process.
- Lead by example in making proactive use of the IT Helpdesk and similar tools that support the effective running or an IT Department.
- Lead by example in the contribution and development of appropriate documentation.
Key requirements:
- CompTIA Core Skill qualifications are desirable.
- Broad general IT experience ideally with experience of managing and supporting users and computers in a business setting, Active Directory, Office 363 and a range of operating systems and applications.
- General knowledge of Microsoft and Linux operating systems
- Awareness of IT and Data security requirements and best practises.
- Logical thinking with good prioritisation, analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Confident communication and customer service skills.
