People in Need is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanity, freedom, equality and solidarity.
People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, journalists and activists and has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organization in Central and Eastern Europe.
Throughout our 30 years of existence, People in Need continues to engage in humanitarian aid, development cooperation, education and social inclusion.
We have been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, working in Five regions; Oromia, South Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia Sidama and Tigray in different multi sectoral projects in the areas of development and emergency response.
People in Need, from the very start of its operations in Ethiopia, has focused on projects in five main areas of interest: Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water and Social protection.

Job Description
People in Need (PIN) Ethiopia is seeking a dedicated Climate Resilience Program Manager (CRPM) to lead our climate resilience initiatives. The CRPM will design, implement, and manage projects aimed at enhancing community adaptation to climate change, ensuring alignment with PIN’s strategic goals and local contexts. This role involves strategic leadership, program management, team development, and external advocacy to position PIN as a leader in climate resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Strategy
- Develop and implement the climate resilience strategy in line with PIN’s overall objectives and local needs.
- Design and execute programs that support sustainable climate adaptation and mitigation, focusing on vulnerable communities.
- Stay informed on local climate risks, emerging trends, and best practices to ensure programs are effective and up-to-date.
- Foster knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement by collaborating with the MEAL unit and utilizing data to enhance program outcomes.
- Work closely with advisors and technical teams to integrate climate resilience principles and utilize PIN’s tools effectively.
- Ensure the incorporation of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and environmental sustainability across all initiatives.
Funding and Resource Mobilization
- Assist in developing a fundraising strategy for climate resilience, engaging donors, and identifying funding opportunities within Ethiopia.
- Lead the creation of climate-related proposals, ensuring they are based on thorough needs assessments and adhere to sector standards.
- Incorporate lessons learned and innovative, evidence-based approaches into all proposals.
- Participate in cluster meetings, working groups, and events to position PIN as a key climate actor.
- Actively engage in proposal development and sector assessments.
Program Management and Quality Assurance
- Oversee the implementation of climate resilience projects, ensuring compliance with PIN policies and donor requirements.
- Develop and enforce quality standards, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for climate activities.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress, gather insights, and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with MEAL and technical teams to maintain robust accountability mechanisms and GESI-sensitive programming.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building
- Manage and mentor the climate resilience team, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous learning.
- Identify and address training needs to enhance the team’s capacity to implement effective projects.
- Foster a positive work environment and facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the team and across departments.
Finance, Budget Oversight, and Reporting
- Ensure accurate budgeting, expenditure tracking, and financial forecasting in collaboration with the finance department.
- Lead regular project reviews to identify improvements and address any gaps.
- Prepare timely and high-quality reports for internal and external stakeholders, including donors, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
External Engagement and Advocacy
- Represent PIN in climate resilience forums, partnerships, and advocacy initiatives to enhance PIN’s profile in the sector.
- Collaborate on donor representation and advocacy for policies supporting climate resilience in Ethiopia.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local stakeholders, government authorities, and community leaders to amplify climate resilience efforts.
- Stay informed about civic space, partnership opportunities, and funding trends to ensure proactive stakeholder engagement.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Climate Science, Development Studies, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in climate resilience, development programs, or related sectors (WASH, NRM etc.)
- Strong project management skills, including budget oversight and compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement adaptive, community-centered programs.
- Preferred Skills
- Experience in donor engagement and proposal writing.
- Knowledge of Ethiopian climate challenges and adaptation strategies (government and donor’s perspective).
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Fluent in English and Amharic (knowledge of the local languages is an advantage).
